Still here in San Diego. We have been doing off road hikes, not real long, but building up in terrain and distance. Enough to get some wonderful blisters on my toes. We are still doing bike rides. Twice we have gone for an hour or more on the bikes. Not real fast, and definitely not too long. But a thousand miles starts with a single step, or something like that. The weather has not been first class this week. Cool with low clouds in the a.m. Constant slow on shore breeze. We are both taking advantage of the hot tub here. Tempting to put one in at home, but I would not want to go out in the cold and dark to use it. We had dinner with Marc yesterday, Mexican shell fish. I'm really maxing out on local lobster.
I'm using my old mountain bike, with front suspension, and fat road tires. Still pretty light weight. Can't beat Titanium. Claudia is using her fold up bike. If we keep riding, she will surely want a new bike with better gears and higher handlebars.
We both got new hiking boots. Mine were fine for a week, then one hike I got blisters starting on the left toes. I bandaged up the two affected toes and the next hike was better. But, there is always a but isn't there, the other foot got ruptured blisters on two toes. So I got new socks, and bought moleskin for padding on the toes. Hopefully it is a cure.
Claudia really hates the mattress in the r.v. We have ordered a new mattress, to be delivered this Monday. Hopefully that will help both of our backs. Oh yeh, my back. It is much better than it was when we first got here. My legs feel quite a bit stronger too. I had set a goal for myself of a 30 minute bike ride 3 days a week while we were here, and I have surpassed that. So I am happy about that.
Our plan is to leave here the middle of next week, to arrive home about the 16th or 17th. Marc and Jane will probably by very happy to have their lives back without having to put up with us.
On the last hike:
